Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2011 - Forever21

Last May 12, 2011 I was graciously invited by the folks at Forever21 to watch their Holiday 2011 show at the SMX Convention Center where all the fashion week festivities took place. So I went with my fabulous friend, Justin to the show. It was the collective mix of preppy, fun and sassy styling, the beaming faces and the gainly stride of the models that got me all pumped up. Forever21 never fails to bring a chic taste to low-end fashion.

Nude is the new Black

You know that the biggest buzz about the Spring 2010 trend is the colour, or the lack thereof. When we think about spring or summer usually the thought of neon colours and eye-popping tones come into our heads but this year it's totally different! Nude, beige, camel, suede and likes are totally huge on the runways this season. Labels such as Chloe, Marchesa, and Givenchy have tapped into the delicate nude shades which come in almost everything from trenchcoats and leather biker jackets to sheer fairytale frocks to soft slouchy pants and shorter-than-short shorts.

Celebrities like Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson, and Anne Hathaway looked sensational in those warm fleshy tones. I, myself, am inlove with the trend! So much so that I had to embellish one of my old nude blazers so It could pass the trend. You know, to make it more current. I'm yet done with it tho. I'm thinking of adding rhinestones on the sleeves. What d'you think?

Alexander McQueen Fall 2010 Shoes

I simply am blown away by the amount of work the late Alexander McQueen and his team has put into the brand's fall 2010 Collection. I've seen the video of the Angels & Demon's inspired final collection which was shown in Paris last month. It was a mix of emotions, truthfully, because you can really feel the essence of Lee as a designer who was passionate towards his art but still there is that sad feeling that lingers in me that he has left for good and carrying with him all his magnanimous visions to the grave. It was bittersweet, so to speak. I can also say that a part of me has gone rotten because one of my greatest inspirations in life has left the face of this planet.

Anyway, to segue back to the original topic, McQueen's final runway show did not give justice to the amazing accessories those dresses were paired to. It is only now that I'm seeing how marvelous they are! I love how intricate and elaborate the designs are! I specifically adore those wing-embroidered platforms and skull duster clutch! Also, you may notice that the faithful bootie is given a little facelift with a golden wing embroidery.

These are nothing but heavenly & sensational! They deserve to cost a fortune. Lee (Alexander) McQueen is a true artist. And you know what happens to an artist work when he dies right? It escalates to a price prohibitive to the proverbial "common" man. Which is, sad to say, ME. Someday! I'm certain of it.

You ready for more Sex?

I'm pretty sure fans like me are on the edge of their seats for the most anticipated sequel of Sex and the City (Movie). It opens on theaters worldwide on the 27th of May, the same date as Sex and the City Part 1. I couldn't wait to see what happens to Carrie's marriage with Big and of course Samantha's sexcapades!

Save the date! Prepare your wardrobe! Run, don't walk, run! This is not a drill... see you in the theatres.

Music I prefer

My taste for music, I have to say, is kinda weird and diverse. I tend not to stick to a single category. I like discovering new jams that are not on the mainstream pop, hip-hop, rock, dance genres. I love listening to English and French bands a lot like New Young Pony Club, MGMT, Alpha-beat, The Plastiscines, etc. I'm also a huge fan of Calvin Harris aka The King of Electropop.

Try giving them a listen.

Blond Gurl

I am now an official fan of the creative works of Phillip Blond. The whole show was Fantastique to me. Truly, his Fall 2010 line is to die for! It gave a nod to Narnia, King kong, Gaga, Rihanna, and even Adam Lambert. It was ridiculously weird and edgy, it was couture! It was glamrock heaven.

The energy of New York fashion week skyrocketed at the The Blonds fashion show. The models pranced in towering Louboutins decked with spikes and golden cords to go with skimpy mini dresses with scandalously short hemlines, flashy bustiers, furs encrusted with oversized gems, dangerous spikes, sequins, metal chain embellishment, and everything else you can think of that sparkles. The make-up was kept classic. Bright red lips, arched eyebrows, bleached pompadours, etc. It was full on excess glamour!

My super favourite moment was when Phillip Blond came out in a gorilla costume and then slowly took it off on the runway while donning on of his fabulous design.

Silhouette Magazine (2009)

A project for our COMP1 class last, last semester. I'm obviously the cover girl and since I also spearheaded this issue I was appointed Editor-in-chief too. I truly enjoyed doing this one because I consider fashion and writing as two of my life's passions.

Kim Chiu; Kelly Bag

Kim Chiu recently tweeted about her new bag acquisition...

I think she deserves it! She has done nothing but hard work since she took an exit from the Big Brother house and to tell you frankly, I've been a fan of hers since I last saw her editorial shots for Preview magazine last September 2009 where she was also the cover girl. I like her because she's model thin and couture pieces look good on her clearly she's got that hanger appeal that most designers want from their models.

Well, its no secret in the fashion industry that models are only viewed as hangers or worse, a slab of beef. That's why it has been observed in most runway shows that model's often show little or no expression at all.

But I digress, Kim Chiu is also a wonderful actress. Her face is a little bit refreshing and her sense of fashion is definitely an A- in my book, which is good.

Goodbye Betty

I am deeply dejected by the premature cancellation of Ugly Betty. It is very disappointing for fans like me who has watched the show since it first aired in September 2006. Since then the show has been the prime inspiration of my life because I can thoroughly relate to the characters of Michael Urie (Marc St. James) and Mark Indelicato (Justin Suarez). Also the show highlighted the inner workings of the print media industry particularly fashion magazine publications, which has been one of my dream careers in life.

On a lighter note, I am happy with how the storyline ended with the theme "From Poncho to Honcho!" If you're truly an avid fan you might remember Betty's sported a festive-looking poncho from Guadalajara, Mexico when she first arrived at the bleak offices of Meade Publications. I could still remember how Amanda Tanen, played by Becki Newton, made a complete pun out of it. I believe her first words to Betty were a bit offensive but hilarious. Anyway, so being a neophyte in the office and with no clear sense of style, Betty was degraded and belittled by her officemates. But as the years progressed she proved them all wrong! At the season finale she was offered by a high-profile editor, who's based in London, to co-edit a Magazine with him. She took the job because it was a huge career opportunity for her despite the fact that she would be leaving her family and friends at Mode. The ending was a bit ironic because Daniel Meade (Betty's boss) decided to leave Mode and start anew. They met at London and Betty asked her if he wanted to work as an assistant for her.

It was nothing but a bittersweet parting, so I cried.

Summer 2010: Boracay

I have to say, Boracay is one of my top summer destinations of all time. My friends and I trotted our well-toned derrieres to the island paradise for a much needed R&R. Our trip was well-planned, just so you know that it was not an impromptu, random thing. We talked about it for prolly 4 months before we finally decided to book our flights. There were lots of saving that we did! And diet. God, the diet was intense but very much required.

It was a very fun and relaxing trip! We tried almost every kind of exciting activity, there is! Personally, I really enjoyed the Banana boat ride and also the island hopping activity on our 2nd day there. Aside from the physical activities, which were a bit strenuous. I also took the time we spent there to simmer down, take a breather, and collect myself. The tranquil and peaceful character of the place helped me fulfill that. It was very nice! Anyway, on our 2nd night there we decided to experience the night life there. It was all drama! I got really, really drunk. I cried because I was emotionally down. I became so disappointed with myself and my relationship with some of my friends weren't going well. So I decided to let it all out and boozed the night away! I really loved there mix of strawberry margarita there! It had an added punch to it... unlike most of the margaritas I have tasted. Anyway, It's all water under the bridge now. S'all good, thankfully!

Before going to Boracay I've heard lots of comments about it from some of my friends that have been there. And they said that they did not enjoy there vacation there because there were a lot of people and it was filled with shops! But you know, I like how commercialized it is as of late. I like that there are many people because it was an avenue for me to meet new and inneresting ones. That's just me! Overall... the sky blue seawater, the powdery white sand, the hospitality of the people, and the party atmosphere are the ones that truly made my stay there very special.
